A Houston area car accident involving a pickup truck and another vehicle left one woman hospitalized with injuries late last month.
The traffic incident, which is unfortunately not uncommon in the bustling Bayou City, occurred in the early morning hours on the north side of the city. According to area police, the collision occurred when the driver of a pickup truck hit an SUV, causing it to smash into a nearby metal traffic pole.
Though the SUV’s driver – its lone passenger – was transported to an area hospital to be treated for injuries, police revealed that her injuries were not considered life threatening, and she was in stable condition.
Video of the incident, which was captured by Metro Video news service, revealed that one of the drivers might have run a red light, though authorities could not immediately pinpoint the responsible party. The incident remains under investigation.
Car Accident Injuries
For those residing in large, thriving cities like Houston, auto accidents may seem all too common. From fender benders to severe collisions, the reality is that these types of incidents occur all the time, and will continue to do so. As a result, drivers need to be aware of what to do in the event of an accident, and what their options are should injury or a related incident occur.
In any auto accident scenario the most important thing to remember is never to admit liability. That is determined through the investigative process, including taking pictures, gathering eyewitness testimony and providing statements to police officers.
It’s also important, if you believe you have suffered an injury, to see a doctor as soon as possible. In many auto accident cases, victims may not be aware of an injury until much later on. At that point, it may be too late. That’s why it is so important to receive the opinion of a qualified medical professional – they may be the only ones able to identify the telling symptoms of injury.
When it comes to determining liability in car accident cases, there are often some false presumptions made.
For example, in the state of Texas, there is the belief that, should you get rear-ended, the driver that struck your vehicle from behind is the responsible or guilty party. This is not necessarily true, and determining liability involves evaluating a number of factors, such as whether or not the driver was maintaining a safe speed, or driving in an overly defensive manner.
