Road Intersections Common Site of Motorcycle Accidents

The Texas Motor Vehicle Traffic Crash Highlights for 2013 show that 495 motorcyclists were killed in that year. This number included both drivers and passengers of motorcycles – more than half of whom were not wearing helmets at the time of their accidents.

Motorcycles are a popular mode of transportation in Texas, and along major roads, riders face risks of serious or fatal injuries resulting from accidents.

Just recently, a female motorcyclist figured in an accident that happened at the intersection of RM 222 and Vaught Ranch Road in West Austin. The rider was traveling eastbound on the outside lane when a motor vehicle coming from the opposite direction attempted to make a left turn on Vaught Ranch road.

Other drivers on the eastbound lane slowed to a stop but the motorcyclist continued on her lane and crashed into the motor vehicle whose driver apparently did not see her. Police investigating the motorcycle accident have ruled out speed, alcohol, or weather conditions as factors in the incident.

They remind everyone that all parties — car drivers and motorcycle riders, have a responsibility to prevent road accidents by taking necessary precautions on the road.

Car, bus, or truck drivers need to understand that Texas has a high motorcycle-riding population and must anticipate them on the road, making appropriate allowances for their safety. Motorcycle operators, as well, must exercise extreme caution and ensure that they are visible to approaching vehicles with which they share roads.

Second Motorcycle Accident

This accident came just a few days after another fatal motorcycle accident in South Austin, this time at the intersection of West Slaughter Lane and Palace Parkway. Investigation showed that the motorcyclist was traveling eastbound when a Camry vehicle that was traveling on the opposite direction turned left and crashed into the motorcycle. The motorcyclist was taken to a local hospital but did not survive his injuries.

Claiming Compensation for Personal Injuries

Motorcycle crash injuries are often serious, requiring extensive medical treatment, time off from work, and continuing rehabilitation and therapy for complete recovery.

If you or a loved one is involved in a motorcycle accident which was the fault of another party, you may be entitled to compensation that can cover all your hospital bills, medication, therapy, and pain and suffering.
