Airman Killed in Motorcycle Accident

A deadly motorcycle accident on Highway 351 in North Abilene, Texas, claimed the life of a pilot who was riding his 2008 Yamaha motorbike when he crashed into a pickup truck that was towing a U-Haul trailer. The accident happened in the afternoon while the motorcyclist was traveling east on the highway.

The rider was wearing a helmet and did not appear to have been under the influence of alcohol. The motorcyclist died at the scene of the accident while the truck’s passengers were unhurt.

Increase in Motorcycle Accidents in Texas

Motorcycle crashes in Texas appear to be on the rise in 2015. In the previous year alone, around 500 people, including motorcycle operators and passengers, were killed in motorcycle accidents. The number is expected to increase as more than 440,000 motorcycles and mopeds are currently registered in Texas.

Factors in Motorcycle Accidents

Visibility: Police investigators who are called to the scene of a motorcycle and car accident maintain that rider visibility is often a problem on the road as people driving cars and larger motor vehicles are often unable to notice or see motorcyclists on the road.

Turning at intersections and changing lanes: Poor road driving practices are also a factor in motorcycle crashes. Failing to use turning signals when changing lanes or turning at an intersection often leads to a traffic collision. For many motor vehicles, the bump can lead to a fender bender but for motorcyclists, the results can be catastrophic.

Helmets: Statistics show that only 47% of motorcyclist fatalities wore helmets. Without the auto body protection most car drivers enjoy, most motorcycle accident fatalities suffered from traumatic head injuries.

Claiming Compensation for Motorcycle Accident Injuries

While wearing a helmet can improve a rider’s survival chances in an accident, those who survive can suffer from traumatic brain injury and other serious physical injuries that require extensive medical treatment.

If you are involved in a motorcycle accident or have lost a loved one in a crash, you may be entitled to compensation.
